1. Captivating Title

Capture your future readers attention by writing a captivating title. I always think about writing a title as if it was a trailer for a movie or show or a headline to a major magazine. Keep it informative and provide insight to the big take away or benefit the reader will when they read your post.

2. External Link (s)

External links refer to a link that leads to a page outside of your website. For example a blog post on someone elses website, a website for a different product or resource, etc. This helps with SEO but additionaly helps you guide your readers to necessary/related information that they may end up searching for. This keeps them from having to do it themselves and makes it more engaging overall.

Pro tip: any time you use an external link, make sure you select the ‘open in new tab / open in new window’ option. That way, your site is still open and visitors don’t accidently close out of it.

3. Internal Link (s)

Internal links mean a link that leads to another page withing your website. For example another blog post, your services page, a product page, etc. Not only does this help with SEO but it helps keep your readers engaged within your own blog. This provides related content that may be of interest to them – which means they’re more than likely to stay on your site longer.

4. Featured Image

Visuals help tell the story of what you’re sharing. Make sure you add a featured image or graphic so people can quickly and easily see what you’re trying to express. If you’re not a photographer, you can check out sites like Unsplash or Pexels for commercial free photography.

5. Additional collateral graphics / images

When & if possible create & add additional collateral graphics or images to your post. This helps create more content you can share and that people can engage with. Some examples could be a quote from your post, photos related to your content or infographics.

Pro Tip: you can take your additional collateral and use it as a visual to share & repurpose your content across social media.

6. Call to Action

A call to action refers to an action you want your visitors/readers to take when they’re done reading. This can be to click a button to get a freebie, a share button, a section to read additional posts or a button to learn more about your services / products. This helps create more engaging content and helps drive your visitors to take action in a way you’d like them to.

7. Opt-in / freebie

Every blog post is an opportunity to grow your email list. Think of either a past opt-in offer or a new one you can create to go along with your new post. You can offer your opt-in at the end of your post & tell your readers to sign up so you can start gaining new email subscribers. Again, if you can – try and repurpose by using a relavant past offer.

8. Affiliate links (& disclaimer)

Blog posts are also a great place to add affiliate links or even banner ads. Affiliate links can help you generate a new stream of revenue. When you have relevant content and are able to, try and add an affiliate link. Don’t forget though, that you need an affiliate disclaimer that’s prominent and seen so people know you’ll make a commission.

9. focused copy / content

When you write your content, make sure it’s focused and has a clear point & reason for being. People want to read about something that could help benefit their life in some way. So always proof read, make final edits and make sure there’s a clear take away with each post.

10. Seo keyword / key phrase

Have a related SEO keyword or keyphrase to help boost SEO for your blog post. Depending on your platform, there are different ways for inputting this, but do your research and make sure it’s a word or phrase that’s both relevant to the piece of content and actively being searched. SEO is a great way to grow an audience organically.

Well, there you go, the 10 things you should include in your blog posts. Now, you won’t always have everything for every blog post and that’s fine, just try your best! When you are able to include affiliate links, opt-in offers, etc to help create more engaging content. By doing this and including these 10, you’re better able to stretch your content and make it work for you!
