The #1 reason you need a lead magnet

Business

If you’re not quite sure about lead magnets in general, this is the post for you. I’m going all in on lead magnets: what they are & why you need them. Including the #1 reason you need a lead magnet and the most common mistake when trying to get email subscribers. So let’s dive in and get started.

What is a lead magnet?

A lead magnet is something meant to attract leads to sign up for your email list. Lead magnets are also referred to as freebies, email opt-in incentives, gifts, etc. The best way to think of a lead magnet is to think of it like a free sample. Kind of like a free sample you’d get at Costco (mmmm…. Costco samples). Anyways, you give away a free sample (lead magnet) as an incentive for your audience to your audience to sign up for your email.

Why do you need a lead magnet?

Email marketing is still the best form of marketing, with 99% of consumers checking their email every day (source). And let’s get real, people care about their email inbox. They don’t want random, unnecessary, promotional bullshit cluttering it. And this day and age, people are much more selective when it comes to giving out their email, because they are aware that’ll their likely to get a ton more emails.

The #1 reason you need a lead magnet is because a lead magnet gives people an incentive to give away their email – and actually be excited about doing so. Regardless of what email platform you’re using, whether it be Mailchimp or Flodesk or whatever, a lead magnet gets people through the door.

The most common mistake people make when trying to get email subscribers is by telling them to ‘subscribe to their list’ without offering any reason as to why they should. Using ‘Join the List’ ‘Subscribe’ isn’t very enticing and in no way makes me want to actually join. I mean, what’s the point and why should I give up my valuable email? That is what people think so don’t make that mistake and provide a lead magnet!

People need a reason to sign up, and you need to give them one! You give your audience something of value, they give you their email.

The more enticing of an offer, the more subscribers you’ll gain and the better conversion rate you’ll have.
